Eczema, like most skin conditions comes in all shapes and sizes. It is foolish to try to diagnose, treat, and prevent your eczema without first knowing what exact type of eczema you have.
Atopic Eczema is the most common type of eczema. It is believed to be genetic and affects both infants and “grown ups”. Atopic Eczema is very itchy and annoying to say the least. Click on the link above to hear more about Atopic Eczema and to see pictures.

Another popular types of Eczema is Dyshidrotic Dermatitis. It is also called hand eczema because it affects just the hand. It is very severe and unsightly. Dyshidrotic Dermatitis is painful and very itchy, needless to say you want to avoid this type of eczema at all costs. To learn more, click the link above.

Nummular Eczema is very widespread and severe in some cases. The best way to prevent Nummular Eczema is to keep your skin very moisturized. I seem to have the biggest problem with Nummular Eczema in the winter, when it is very cold and my hands become very dry. You may not be able to avoid Nummular Eczema altogether but you should be able to keep it in control if you know what you are doing.

What you think about yourself is huge, especially how you view your body image. Obviously eczema, especially severe eczema can make someone a little less confident in their body image.
What do to: If you are feeling depressed, and think it may be linked to eczema visiting a shrink is a must. Nothing is more important then your life, you may have 5 days or 90 years left, you want to be able to enjoy each second without having low self esteem or even having suicidal thoughts. Suck up your pride and book a visit, make no excuses and be completely upfront with whoever you are talking to. Worst case scenario is that you do not enjoy your visit and will not be going back for anymore.
In the end, it is just eczema. Yes, how you look matters in the world, for better or for worse. We would all love to start with a blank slate and have our character determine who we are friends with and how our lives turn out, but that is just one aspect of the equation.
It is just your skin! Even if you have severe eczema most people worth talking to and being around will not judge you for it. Red lesions on your skin do not define you, how you react to it does.

Rubbing alcohol is a popular eczema treatment these days. It is cheap and very powerful, which is what sufferers of all skin conditions are looking for.
The problem is that rubbing alcohol is not only effective, but very effective. You need dryer skin if you want to get rid of your eczema. Rubbing alcohol has a drying affect on your skin, but it takes it to the extreme. Your skin will be very, very dry and it will turn red and flaky.
Simply put, rubbing alcohol is not meant to be put on your face, however it is worth a try. There are few proven treatments for eczema and rubbing alcohol has been proven to help some eczema sufferers, which is a plus. Also, you can find rubbing alcohol almost anywhere for less than five dollars. Grocery stores and Walgreens are my favorite places to pick it up.
Give rubbing alcohol a chance to help clear up your eczema but do not expect any major results. Have low expectations and you will not be disappointed.

You are what you eat, in every possible way. Eczema is linked very closely with your diet, so it is of utmost importance to know which foods can trigger eczema breakouts.
Dairy, eggs, wheat, seafood, and different types of nuts have all been linked to causing eczema. It is impossible to know which exact food is causing your eczema or if what you eat is causing your eczema at all, so you have to be diligent about your problem.
Avoid dairy for 3-5 days and see if your situation improves. Refrain from eating eggs and products that have eggs in them for a week and see what happens. Ignore seafood for a few days… You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to come out on top against this annoying skin ailment.
The foods listed above are just common foods that trigger an eczema flare, everyone suffering from this ailment is different.
One of the biggest myths in the skin care world is that chocolate triggers acne, that could not be any farther from the truth, however what you eat affects every facet of your life.
The only way you will know what causes your eczema is by experimentation. Go to a doctor or dermatologist, he/she will tell you the same exact thing.
If you have an infant or toddler suffering from eczema it is even more important that you get this situation under control. Play around with his/her diet and see what works and what doesn’t. The worse thing you can do is nothing at all, eczema is not giving up why would you?

Believe it or not, Eczema looks a whole lot like ringworm, despite the fact that the two illnesses are very different in nature.
Here is a picture of Eczema:

Here is a picture of Ringworm:

The two are not mirror images of each other, but I could not blame someone for getting them mixed up at first sight.
Eczema is much flakier than ringworm. Ringworm has raised ridges on the skin that form a circular lesion.
Eczema is almost always red and can be painful and itchy.
Eczema is not contagious in the least bit while ringworm is very contagious, so it is important for the safety and well being of others around you that you know what exactly is going on with your skin.
Nummular Eczema looks most like ringworm.

If you think you are suffering from either ailment do not be afraid to go to a dermatologist or doctor of some kind. Eczema is not very flattering as far as looks go and it can be itchy and painful. Ringworm is much worse in all aspects, and to top it all off it is very contagious.
Getting information online is great, but it is no substitute for speaking to an expert in real life that knows exactly what is going on. If you have decent health insurance all you should have to pay is a 10-50 dollar co-pay, which is a small price to know what is going on with your skin and what you need to do to get everything back to normal.

Milk is full of protein, everyone knows that. There are several different types of protein, milk is made up predominately of casein protein, which dissolves slowly over several hours in the body.
Eczema is caused by your immune system acting upon itself. When it thinks a “bad guy” is coming, eczema is likely the result. If you are allergic to milk, or more specifically casein that is found in milk, your immune system could be pumping out eczema to save yourself.
I can only speculate as to the cause of your eczema in particular, everyone is different. Your best bet is to go a week dodging milk, cheese, butter… any dairy products. See if you have any new eczema lesions pop up and see how your existing lesions are doing.
There are millions, possibly billions around the world that are allergic to milk, eczema is just one of the serious side effects.
New research has found a link between milk and eczema, go without dairy for the foreseeable future and gage where you are in a week, it does not hurt to try!
Eczema is not going to give up on trying to negatively affect your life, are you going to give up on fighting it?

Yesterday I commented that yogurt was a great natural treatment for eczema, after doing a little research into coconut oil, I have more good news to share!

Coconut oil is one of the 6-8 supplements that seemed to always be hyped up as a cure to almost anything and everything [Green tea, fish oil...], but do not let that fool you. Thousands of eczema sufferers across the world have found that coconut oil helped treat their existing eczema and lessened the likelihood of having new eczema lesions appear.
Why I love coconut oil as a treatment for eczema:
1. It is cheap! You can buy coconut oil online or in a supplement store for around 10 dollars for a large container that should last you 10-20 servings. Less than a dollar per treatment is as cheap as it is going to get in the skin care industry.
2. There are no nasty side effects. Coconut oil is all natural, which means the worst case scenario is that you wasted 10 dollars because the coconut oil did not help your eczema situation, which is rare.
3. Coconut oil is easy to find and apply.
The whole process is a no brain-er. Invest in coconut oil and reap the rewards once you begin to notice your eczema heals quicker and becomes less and less of a problem.

It is true! Select types of yogurt can help to heal and prevent Eczema.
Eczema is unique in that it is fairly severe and widespread, yet there are not many proven cures, treatments, or prevention methods out their. Mild eczema is not too bad, but severe eczema can affect your quality of life.
If you are struggling with Eczema buying [and eating] yogurt with active cultures can be a great, tasty investment. Active cultures in yogurt help your immune system in many ways, including protecting you from damaging toxins. This should not only help treat your existing eczema, but discourage it from popping back up again.
The best part about using yogurt as a treatment for eczema is that it is basically risk free. A serving of yogurt costs no more than 50-75 cents, it is delicious, and a healthy snack. Other treatments can costs hundreds of dollars or have potentially serious side effects.
The next time you go to the grocery store buy yogurt with active cultures, eat a serving of yogurt daily and see if your eczema situation improves. Natural treatments are usually the best, safest, cheapest treatments, this is a great example.

Having Eczema on your lips is always a tricky situation. One of the worst ways to aggravate your Eczema is to eat foods that are overly salty or acidic. These foods will obviously touch your lips before entering your mouth. Have you ever been in an ocean with an open cut? Have you ever squirted lime or lemon juice on a wound? You are doing the same thing every time you let salty or acidic foods touch your lip eczema.
You need to keep your lips moisturized throughout the day. I suggest putting petroleum jelly or other lip balm treatments on your lips 4-5 times a day.
Eczema is very similar to acne, you can try to avoid breakouts, but you cannot stop everything. If you do get lesions on your skin it is not the end of the world. Eczema lesions are painful and unsightly, but they will get better after a few days. Be sure to treat your lesions with care and do not take this situation lightly.
Keeping your lips moisturized is not only the best way to treat an eczema lesion, it is also the best way to prevent it. In the winter I notice my skin and lips get very dry, this is when Eczema likes to attack. Use lotion, lip balm… anything it takes.
There is no magic cure to eczema, you have to make sure you are taking the proper steps to treating and preventing your lip eczema.

Nummular Eczema is one of the more severe and aggravating forms of Eczema.

Symptoms of Nummular Eczema:

Coin shaped spots on your arms and legs. They are similar to blisters in size and they can also become crusty. The spots have been known to become very itchy, similar to a mosquito or ant bite. Your skin will be red, inflamed, and raw, altogether you are in for a bad day if you wake up with one of these lesions on your body

You will know when you have Nummular Eczema, that is for sure. It is what it is, you have to deal with it and take steps to prevent Nummular Eczema from popping up again.

Nummular Eczema Treatement:

It is important that you keep your skin moisturized. Nummular Eczema is not like acne, rashes, or other skin ailments, there are no cures or medicines that you can take. Use lotion liberally. If your Eczema is getting overly severe, do not be afraid to go to a dermatologist and ask him/her for their opinion. They know what they are doing and dermatologists can prescribe powerful treatments for Nummular Eczema that you cannot buy over the counter.

Causes of Nummular Eczema:

Isotrentinoin has been known to cause Nummular Eczema, but other than that no one really knows. It is just one of those things that happen. You are best off focusing on what you can control. Do not wear wool clothing and do not bathe too frequently if you want to keep your Eczema under control
